The KRG Nordic strongly criticizes the Iraq Study Group Report

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Nordic Representation hereby issues
a statement in connection to President Massoud Barzani“s response to the
Iraq Study Group (ISG) Report.

The KRG Nordic maintains the statement of President Massoud Barzani and the
reaction of the KRG to the Iraqi Study Group report and strongly criticizes
the conclusions of the newly presented report.

The Iraqi Study Group report is deficient in many key points the gravest
being its total opposition to the Iraqi constitution, adopted 15th of
October 2005, and approved of by the peoples in Iraq in a democratic
referendum. Furthermore, the ISG report publicly invigorates and encourages
insurgents in Iraq and those in support of them to further exercise their
violence and offences against human rights through the suggestions that the
Iraqi Study Group advocates.

The Iraqi Study Group was to report on Iraq; still the group was unable
to visit all of the country managing to overlook an entire region. Thus, for
inexplicable reasons the Iraqi Study Group never visited the Kurdistan
Region hence missing the opportunity to experience the single successful
evidence of democracy taking place in all of Iraq. Instead of supporting and
encouraging the elements of democracy, stability and security in the
Kurdistan Region and the political maturity of the Kurdistan Regional
Government as well as the well-known friendship and comradeship of the
population of the Kurdistan Region in relation to the rest of Iraq and the
region of Middle East, the Iraqi Study Group has chosen to ignore and take
for granted this fact without any consideration of the Halabja massacre, the
Anfal campaign and the atrocities that were committed against the population
of Kurdistan.

The KRG Nordic would like to remind of the fact that Mr. James Baker of the
Iraqi Study Group was Secretary of State during the exodus of 1991 when the
population of Kurdistan fled to the mountains away from Saddam Hussein and
his troops.

The KRG Nordic hopes and expects that President George Bush, in his upcoming
speech addressed to the American nation takes into consideration the points
raised by President Barzani in his announcement 7 December 2007.

The KRG Nordic would also like to remind all parties that the territorial
integrity of Iraq is based solely on the Constitution of Iraq and its stated
federal arrangements.
